Six miles of sandy beach and grass covered dunes. The bay has benefited from the enviromental projects to help the Northumberland coastline recover from it's industrial mining past. Ladyburn Lake within the Druridge Bay Country Park, once an opencast mine, is now a watersports facility, and includes a visitor centre.
Former coal shipping port, Amble is now a resort town with a marina, harbour, boat-builders yard, and sandy/shingle beaches.
The Northumberland Coast is designated as an Area Of Outstanding Beauty (AONB), starting at Berwick upon Tweed at the Scottish borders. The coast is notable for the castles and small islands such as Lindisfarne.
