A coal shipping port in the past, Amble is now a resort town with a marina, harbour, fishing boats, boat-builders yard, and sandy/shingle beaches. There is a nature reserve (Amble Dunes) to the south of the town.
Offshore is Coquet Island, with lighthouse and an RSPB reserve with Roseate terns and other sea birds. The island cannot be visited but boat trips around the island are available from Amble.
