The Northumberland Coast is a designated Area Of Outstanding Beauty (AONB), starting at the historic Berwick upon Tweed at the Scottish borders, and heading down to Blyth where the Tyne and Wear ceremonial county begins. It is a dramatic and varied landscape known for it's traditional seaside towns, villages and hamlets, sandy beaches and rolling dunes, high cliff tops, imposing castles such as Bamburgh Castle, and isolated islands such as Lindisfarne (Holy Island).

Of particular importance for wildlife is Coquet Island which lies just off the Northumberland coast at Amble. It is home to the Roseate Tern, England's rarest seabird.

The Northumberland Coast Path starts at Cresswell and ends in Berwick upon Tweed. The 60 mile Northumberland Coast Path forms part of the international North Sea Trail.
